Some Past Events

Over the years our members have participated in various events, we have travelled 6 hours each way London Countryside Marches. by coach to support the two London Countryside Marches and the way of life enjoyed by all those who take part in country pursuits.

Some of our members making an early start for the last London March they were a small part in the crowd of several hundred thousand from all over the UK who turned out on the day.
<=== Back to History

Our members have spent hours in the Taw's estuary doing clean up by hauling all sorts on junk out of the river bed that is constantly tipped in by mindless people with no thought to the damage being done to the environment, wild life Estuary Clean Ups and fish. One of the worst problems is bits of nylon netting or line that gets entangled around birds legs or wings and fish also become entangled and damaged. If you see rubbish on any beach or foreshore, pick it up and dispose of it please and you will be doing your bit to help with this massive problem.

Since the club was formed clay shoots have been held at many venues in North Devon, some of the more successful events have allowed the club to make donations in aid of local charities from the proceeds of the day. Others have just been social events where members, friends and visitors are all welcome and old friends can chat to each other. Clay Shoots There is normally a BBQ run by members of the club offering the locally produced burgers, hot dogs and other refreshments. Like all outdoor events a good attendance is essential, mostly we have been lucky except for the latest day which was the wettest in what had been a very dry summer. However in these appalling conditions a good few stalwarts turned out and 50 cards resulted in a breakeven for the day.

In recent years the club chairman Les Oldham has also organised and hosted a team gundog competition. In 2001 the Scurry event was won by The North Devon Working Gundog Club against some keen opposition. This combined with the clay shoot raised a considerable amount for the RNLI.

The main clay shoot day is normally held in late August or early September and visitors are welcome. If you are interested you can contact the Secretary for details by clicking here.
